Aim<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Painswick Valley Probus Club was formed in 1990, with the objective to provide a regular meeting point for retired professional and business people residing in Painswick and the surrounding villages.\u00a0 It also provides the opportunity to socialise with others with similar backgrounds\u00a0 via an occasional dinner or other outing.<\/p>\n

The Club is run independently by the members for the members.<\/p>\n

Some 50 members enjoy the Club’s activities and new members are always welcome. Please see below the paragraph about membership.<\/p>\n

Meetings<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Club meets\u00a0 on mostly alternate Thursdays, at the Painswick Centre in the Beacon Hall where coffee is available from\u00a0 11.00 a.m.\u00a0 The meetings commence at 11.30 a.m. and last up to about 90 min including questions and discussion followed by a glass of wine. Speakers are engaged on a wide range of interesting topics. The programme of meetings and other events may be seen under the “Diary” menu on the Club’s\u00a0 website.<\/p>\n

A report is usually submitted after each meeting and is posted in full on the website for the information of absentees.\u00a0 A much abbreviated version of the\u00a0 report normally appears in The Painswick Beacon<\/em> to promote the Club and attract new members.<\/p>\n

Outings<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Visits are arranged annually to a place of interest. In recent years visits have included the Bletchley Park museum, RAF Cosford, the Palace of Westminster and Big Ben, SS Great Britain, Gatcombe Court, Jaguar Cars and The Royal Mint. We have also cruised on the Waverley paddle steamer and enjoyed a canal boat trip on the river Avon.<\/p>\n

Meals<\/strong><\/p>\n

A\u00a0 Summer Luncheon and a Christmas Dinner, with\u00a0 partners who need not to be members, are usually held annually.<\/p>\n

Membership<\/h5>\n

New members and visitors will be warmly welcomed. If you are interested in attending a meeting or joining the club please contact a Committee Member. The annual subscription is \u00a390. \u00a0The membership application form<\/a> may be printed for manual completion and submission. If you prefer not to use the internet please contact a committee member anyway, or just come along to the next meeting and introduce yourself to a committee member.<\/p>\n

You don’t need to wait until you are invited to join and there is no joining fee.<\/p>\n

Yew Trees at Painswick<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Painswick churchyard is famous for its abundance of yew trees which are immaculately kept. This maintenance costs a great deal and an ingenious scheme has been devised by the town fathers to raise the funds.\u00a0 Each yew tree can be sponsored for a fee by individuals or groups.<\/p>\n
